The world’s largest public sculpture exhibition Sculpture by the Sea – is back in Bondi! Since the first event took place in 1997, more than a thousand heavy sculptures have lined the Bondi to Tamarama walk. Free for all to explore, the event transforms the Bondi coastal walk into an outdoor gallery with stunning ocean views serving as a backdrop.
Running from October 18 to November 4, the exhibition features over 100 sculptures from 35 Australian and international artists, each thoughtfully placed along the breathtaking coastline. Many leading Australian sculptors including May Barrie, Anne Ferguson, Geoffrey Bartlett, Bert Flugelman, Michael Le Grand, Louise Paramor, Ron Robertson-Swann OAM, Ken Unsworth and Hossein Valamanesh are contributing to the event, as well as many others from around the world. As this year’s exhibition focuses on India, 12 works from sculptors from the region are on show. Additionally, there will be 12 highly regarded Japanese artists including Haruyuki Uchida, Keizo Ushio and Toshio Iezumi.
Visitors can expect diverse works, from large-scale installations engaging with the environment to intricate pieces inviting closer inspection. This year’s theme encourages artists to explore sustainability and connection to the ocean, reflecting our collective responsibility to protect our natural world. Interactive sculptures and engaging performances will enhance the experience, making it a feast for the senses. As you stroll along the scenic 2km coastal walk, take the time to reflect on each piece and engage with the artists, many of whom are on-site to share their inspirations and stories.

In addition to more than 100 outdoor sculptures that will be showcased as part of the 26th exhibition of Sculpture by the Sea, there is also an indoor exhibition. Located halfway through the walk at Mark’s Park, Sculpture Indoor displays smaller sculptures as part of a temporary marquee. It also offers visitors the opportunity to purchase sculptures from Australian and international artists, newcomers, and veterans of the space.
Whether you’re an art aficionado or a casual visitor, Sculptures by the Sea promises a unique and memorable experience. Over 450,000 people are expected to explore the magnificent sculptures dotted between Bondi and Bronte over the 18-day exhibition, and it is set to be one of the most memorable events to date. This event is just one of many events throughout the year that are hosted in the Eastern Suburbs, and with cultural and artistic exhibitions like Sculptures by the Sea available for free, Sydneysiders are in for a treat.
